    About the area

Taranaki lies on the West Coast of the North Island, equal distances between Auckland and Wellington. Taranaki enjoys a temperate climate with abundant rainfall, and a population of approximately 121,000 people, with just over 28,000 of them residing in South Taranaki.

Protected by breath taking and snow-capped Mt Taranaki, steeped in historical significance and boarded by a 300km coastline of ragged surf beaches, Taranaki offers a smorgasbord of outdoor recreation from the mountain to the surf with numerous parks in between, as well as a vibrant arts and crafts scene both within the city and throughout the region.

Both visitors and locals enjoy the spectacular coastal walkway stretching from Port Taranaki to Bell Block, popular with walkers, joggers and bikers of all ages.

With an excellent assortment of dining options, from cafes to high end restaurants both in the city and beyond, you will certainly be impressed with what Taranaki has to offer.
Hāwera is the main town centre of South Taranaki and is a vibrant community with many businesses built around long standing rural connections. Fonterra has a large processing plant just south of Hāwera and is a major local employer. Nearby Manaia boasts another major employer with long standing family baking business of Yarrows a significant contributor to the district.

South Taranaki offers a diverse lifestyle with a great selection of outdoor activities and experiences, unique to the overall region.
